Male Types of Acne

July 27th, 2007 by Aaks

Are you a male that has acne? Do you have a brother or male friend that has acne? Acne is a condition that is especially cruel to men. Most men will experience acne either all their life or sometime in their life. Men have unique considerations of hygiene when it comes to acne. There are three main considerations that can result in male acne which include: shaving, ingrown hairs, and psychological aspects.

Let’s examine the types of acne that men constantly have to deal with on a daily basis.

Male Acne Consideration #1: Shaving.

Most men shave on a daily basis. Improper shaving techniques can lead to acne. This type of acne can be avoided if you follow these steps when shaving.

For wet shaving, first make sure that you have a sharp razor. Dull razors can lead to nicks causing rashes and acne. You have a variety of choices as to the number of blades. If you don’t normally suffer from ingrown hairs then a single edge razor will work. If you suffer from ingrown hairs then using a double or triple edge razor is your best bet.

Before you begin shaving make sure that you wet your face and beard completely using warm water. Wet hair is much softer which is simply easier to shave. You will pull less on your skin when you shaving. Pulling is bad because it can lead to nicks.

Make sure that you shave with the grain. This means that you shave in the direction in which your hair grows. Usually this is downwards, but may vary on different parts of your face. Be careful and follow your chin, cheeks, and skin contours exactly. Also make sure to wash off your razor in between shaving strokes.

Male Acne Consideration #2: Ingrown hairs.

Facial ingrown hairs can lead to unsightly acne. Ingrown hairs can become inflamed which leads to plugged pores. Good bacteria try to come to the rescue, but do not stop the inflammation nor does it turn the ingrown hair around. Therefore, the best way to avoid acne from ingrown hairs is to prevent ingrown hairs from growing in the first place.

To minimize and avoid ingrown hairs try to keep your skin healthy as healthy as possible by engaging in an acne treatment program. Also try to shave as little as possible. Shaving tends to cause your skin to become irritated which leads to ingrown hairs. If you have to shave everyday then take great care when shaving.

Male Acne Consideration #3: Psychological aspects.

Acne can be very embarrassing especially when it covers your face. Many men avoid dating and other social situations because of their acne. Men feel helpless when it comes to covering up their acne because they feel cover up makeup is only made for women. Many men avoid cover up by having a beard or a half-shaven look. If you need to have a fully shaven face then you can find blemish cover up specifically geared towards men.

Follow these tips to help alleviate your male acne. You no longer have to hide in the shadows when a breakout occurs.
