Oil Free Moisturizer – Are Oil Free Moisturizers Really Effective
November 20th, 2009 by Aaks
Despite what some of the cosmetics companies are now trying to tell people, you cannot use an oil free moisturizer on your skin and expect it to be effective. Your skin needs natural oils, because the oil derived from plants bears the closest resemblance to the sebum that the sebaceous glands produce. They provide your skin with antioxidants, and essential nutrients such as omega fatty acids.
There is no reason that the products that you use should not have natural oils in them. These new moisturizers are marketed as being superior for people that suffer from oily or combination skin, but to be honest with you having oily skin is not natural. By that I mean that the sebaceous glands do not simply over produce oil for no good reason, so there has to be something that is causing it.
I have read reviews of oil free moisturizer products, and I have studied the ingredients that they contain. Many of them have alcohol and other drying agents in them that will actually make your skin produce more oil than it normally would, but I guess that keeps you coming back for the temporary relief that the drying compounds give you. It is most likely using formulas that contained alcohol and the like that caused your skin to produce excess oil.
I have also read the “glowing” customer comments on these formulas where many said that the products didn’t make their skin feel “greasy” after they applied it. In my experience the only formulas that have left my skin greasy were the ones that featured petroleum based moisturizing agents. They tend to form a film on the skin, because these compounds are too dense for the skin to effectively absorb them.
I have also noticed that among the drying agents found in these oil free moisturizer products, there are supposedly non-oil based moisturizers such as cornflower extract. When you see a plant based extract like this listed as a moisturizer do you know what that means you are getting? It means that the formula contains cornflower oil.
Instead of an oil free moisturizer what the product you are using need to contain are ingredients such as Maracuja passion fruit extract. What the effective emollient does for you is it regulates the production of sebum so that you will never have to worry about overproduction again. So, there you have a natural moisturizing oil that will resolve your problems with oily skin.
